Membership

The pickleball courts at Mitchell Park are open to the public, and anyone is allowed to play free of charge.

The Palo Alto Pickleball Club was formed to promote the game, establish court rules, make occasional improvements to the courts, like benches and sunshades, and to encourage volunteers to help new players socialize and improve their game.

To this end, the club offers Getting Started sessions twice a month to Palo Alto and East Palo Alto residents, and members-only weekly Clinics for beginner, intermediate, and advanced players, plus regular training sessions with the club’s ball machine.

The club offers weekly Round Robin and DUPR tournaments for members, plus occasional MiLP (Minor League Pickleball) and intramural Flex-League Tournaments officiated by club volunteers.

The club has a volunteer liaison who works with Palo Alto schools to encourage pickleball in their programs, and to schedule tournaments and get-togethers at the courts for kids and their families.

Club members will sometimes organize pot lucks and parties at the picnic tables next to the pickleball courts for special occasions like national holidays.

The club also maintains rotary sweepers for cleaning debris off the courts, and squeegees for drying wet courts after it rains.

The club maintains a Lost and Found area for paddles, clothing, and water bottles left behind (please put your name and phone number on your paddles). If you need to check the Lost and Found, look for a member with a lock sticker on their name tag.

The club communicates with its members through a bi-monthly newsletter (Pickleball Patter), an occasional PAPC Bulletin, and a private Discord server. Members create an account on the Discord server that allows them to communicate with other members, view the club calendar, and sign up for Clinics and tournaments.

Finally, the club’s Board of Directors work directly with the Parks and Recreation Department and the Palo Alto City Council to lobby for court improvements and expansion.
